Controversies
When the video game industry first began, the games were based on sports. Tennis, football, racing. Then, a game came out called Death Race. The main objective was to drive over stick figures and kill them. Immediately people began to speculate that the stick figures were people and the game was encouraging children to kill people. The developers defended themselves by saying the stick figures were gremlins, but still the accusations continued. Death Race would be tame when compared to the games people played years after it came out. One of the most infamous ones was Doom, a shooter where the goal was to get the most kills. Today these shooters are popular with the gaming community, but back then people saw them as training for killers, and declared that they should be treated like weapons. Of course everyone thought that the people who believed that were out of their mind. There was no way a video game would drive someone to kill another human being right? It was like saying Mario would create killers.
