What do Video games have anything to do with politics?
That might be the questions your asking, and usually its very rare when video games have a direct impact on politics, but its been around 25-30 years since video games have become popular, so some people have grown up with video games. However, others haven't, and most politicians arent 30 years old. And most politicians certainly don't play video games, which usually leads them to view video games as a harmful way of entertainment that creates dull, nerdy, and lazy people. One example of this is a rather recent debate in Maine over a state senate race, where the Republican party has accused the Democrat candidate of playing video games! Basically the Republican party said that playing video games would obviously make you immature, unstable, and unfit for running for political office. Of course ignoring the fact that most people play video games in modern society. Also its rather amusing that they never mention the fact that some people spend all their free time in front of a televison screen. Even more amusing is the fact that they use this particular argument and don't even mention the other issues Maine has. Good job guys, video games are obviously more important than the state. This type of pure idiocy from politicians is just shocking. It shows a lack of understanding from older politicians, and the thing is, if you don't understand something you begin to fear it. Which means that a lot of older politicians probably fear video games, they think its something that would probably be harmful and as an result things like SOPA happen.
